Deftones - Ecdysis [visualiser]

This pixel-art visualiser for Deftones’ song “Ecdysis” from their album Private Music uses low-resolution, game-inspired animation to explore themes of shedding transformation and tension.  Inspired by the song’s influence on the LA fires and its themes of destruction and transformation, I incorporated 90s retro futurism into my iconic minimal colour palettes.  The looping motion and rhythmic transitions are tightly synced to the song’s structure creating a hypnotic tactile visual experience that balances nostalgia with unease.  Designed as an abstract visual companion with a loose narrative.
